PACIFIC AGE RESULTS

Pacific Age results

Here are the results for February's album of the month survey. The surveys keep getting better and better and I am receiving about twice as many responses each month. The exciting thing for me to see is where everyone is accessing the page from. I have seen guestbook entries from Germany, Italy, Spain, Chile, Japan, Canada just to name a few.

Please be sure and fill out the March survey before you leave. The album of the month for March is "Orchesteral Manouevres in the Dark."

Please be sure and send in your comments and reviews for "Orchestral Manouevres in the Dark" so I can include them in next months results page. As always, I look forward to hearing from you all!!

Here's what you had to say about "The Pacific Age"

"This is my first OMD album and I thought it was outstanding when I first got it. However, the more I listened to it and the more I heard the earlier albums, I thought the Pacific Age was just pretty good. The Dead Girls brings back memories of past glories and Watch Us Fall is a gorgeous, nostalgiac song and is one of the most underrated OMD songs. There are other great songs on here, such as Forever Live and Die, Shame, and Goddess of Love. It's an all-around solid pop record.Personally, this album is less relevant and meaningful than the somber and creative style found on the early albums".

"When I first heard this album I hated it. Slow, boring and no dancetracks. But during the years taht I owned it I had been listening to it during a few rader long periods and theres a lot of gratness to it. This is a beatifull album."

"Pacific Age was given to me by my 6th grade girlfriend, who was told we were too young to be buying each other gifts. I guess because I've had it for nine years I've come to love this album very much. OMd has had a way of touching my life very deeply, and it comes shining through in this album especially. The mellowness of the album rocks my world, yet its not too mellow and has some great beats and some of the greatest lyrics ever. Pacific Age could never be played enough. You stick it in and just hit cd repeat! i've introduced many people to OMD with this album and haven't had a negative response yet!! I LOVE these guys!!"

"Midle of the road, something great happened. A great album was released, "The Pacific Age". The nostalgia of the 80's is embodied(sp?) in this album, which my brother bought for me a long time ago. Up untill 1994 I had been searching for it on CD because my little white tape would not last for ever. There are so many good songs on this album, even "Southern" grew on me so much. But my favorite from this album is "Shame." What a great song I swear this is one song I'll never get sick of, but it sounds it's best right along side all the other great songs of "The Pacific Age." What great and awesome orchestration!!"

"The Pacific Age is a very solid album with some great mainstream stuff ("Live and Die" and "We Love You"). There are also some songs which have the typical OMD feeling ("Dead Girls", "Flame of Hope"). Southern is one of the best pieces OMD ever made. But all in all, like most of albums since Junk Culture, the album is too much like any other synthpop of that time. I prefer the older stuff. 4th best OMD album after A&M, Dazzle Ships, and Organisation.

"When this album first came out, of course I loved it and played it to thin plastic shreds on my record player. But looking back now at all the OMD material to date, my personal opinion would have to be that this is thier weakest moment. But for OMD, the weakest is still pretty damn good. You can definitely see the musical discord that tore Andy and Paul apart in this album, it's more of a collection of songs that each of them wrote alone. Since I tend to also lean towards to electronic side of OMD, the addition of horns and heavy acoustic drumming kind of turned me off a little."

"It was difficult for me to choose my top three songs on Pacific Age. All of the songs are big hits in my book. My tape got so worn out I had to go by the CD."

"Pacific Age" was the first O.M.D. album I ever owned. The song "Forever Live and Die" really was the first song I remember hearing by O.M.D. This is one of if not my favorite O.M.D. cd...I have not seen it in stores for years...I just wish the original O.M.D. group would join back together and TOUR THE UNITED STATES!!!!!! Salt Lake City has a devoted following of O.M.D. fans, yet have not seen them in concert for several years now...Anyway.."Pacific Age" by far is one of the best albums ever made..."

"It is a very good album of short poppy songs, a very stong album."

Mark Brawn

"This, to me was a severe disappointment, the only song I really enjoyed was Forever Live and Die, even though I thought it was too much of an attempt to sound mainstream. It was obvious sign of the beginning of the end."

"Many things too similar to 'Crush'. Forever Live & Die rates as No.3 in my all time list of singles so it pulls the level up. Title Track weak (probably why the title track hasn't been used since a la Sugar Tax). Overall reasonable mix yet obvious period between styles for the group."

"Really Pop sounding OMD but a fun album."

"While other bands striked it rich w/ Stephen Hague, OMD began their downfall w/ him on the production helm, starting w/ 'Crush'. As more & more live members filled up the rank, the originality of OMD wore thin. The live sound from'Crush' carried on to 'Pacific Age', but the crash (or lack) of ideas turned PA into a merely decent pop album, only to be saved by the superb singles "Forever Live & Die" and "We Love You".

Scott McMullin "The best album with OMD's original line up. From Stay to Watch Us Fall, the album kept my attention throughout. It was hard to pick just 3 favorite tracks. I loved this album when it was released and I still listen to it now."

"This album seemed to represent a change in the "sound" of OMD with more brass instrumentation used. Southern is a haunting track which is similar in it's message to "88 Seconds in Greensboro". "Stay" is a great track with a great background vocal. I must say that whilst I would recommend this album, it is certainly not OMD's best."

Duncan McCrea

"WITH TWO OF THEIR TRADEMARK SONGS, "FOREVER LIVE AND DIE" AND "WE LOVE YOU", AS WELL AS A STRONG TITLE TRACK, THE ALBUM HAS A STRONG POP BASE. "STAY" AND "SHAME" ARE TWO OF THEIR MORE UNDERAPPRECIATED SONGS (THE RE-RECORDED REMIX OF "SHAME" IS A MUST-HAVE). THIS ALBUM COMBINES SOME OF THE EXPERIMENTAL SIDE OF OMD, WITHOUT COMPROMISING THE SYNTH-POP SENSIBILITES THAT MADE THEM A NEW WAVE SENSATION."

"I was very surprised to see the results of this survey. I would have though that the majority of people would have not liked this album. What really surprised me was the favorite tracks of everybody. "Forever Live and Die" was an easy first place finisher, but seeing tracks like "Dead Girls" and "Pacific Age" finishing second was very surprising. Personally, I really like this album. I happen to like the acoustic sound of this album with its heavy brass and acoustic drums, it made for a pleasant diversion from strictly synths. Favorite tracks for me are easy, number 3 being "Pacific Age", just because of its mellow tempo and great drums. Second is tougher, I would have to lean towards "Goddess of Love" which is an excellent dance track (at least back then.) But number 1 for me is a tie between "Forever Live and Die" and "Watch us Fall." "Watch Us Fall" is a perfect song to end the album with. It is very reminiscent of "Talking Loud and Clear" in its saxaphone sound and Andy's soft vocals and for me conjuers up the same sort of image and feeling as seen in the "Talking Loud and Clear" video. "Forever Live and Die" is one of the first OMD songs I ever heard, and I was hooked after that. The bass line is excellent and Paul's vocals are some of his best work ever. Overall I give this album and 8 on a scale to 10, but then again, that's just my opinion! See you all next month!!"
