OMD ALBUM OF THE MONTH

Here are the results of the first of many album of the month features that will be posted on this web page. The first album featured was "Crush," and listed below are the results of the survey forms people filled out and sent in from all over the world. These are the comments and reviews of OMD fans from all over the world and have not been edited by me or anyone else. Every month there will be a new album featured, at least until we run out of albums to cover, and a new form to fill out that will be linked to the home page. The album of the month for January 1996 is "Organisation." Please take a minute and go back to the home page and click on the "survey" button, fill out the form, and press the submit button, that's all there is to it! Please include your name and comments on the album so that you can be featured on this page. There was a very good response, given that the form was only up for about 2 weeks in Decmeber, but I expect a much better response for January's page since the form will be up all month long. Many thanks go out to all of you who participated in December and sent in your comments, reviews and suggestions.

Here is what you had to say about "Crush"

"Good album, maybe the best for introducing someone to the music of OMD"

-Saldock

"Great Stuff"

-Mike "Mad Dog" Dawson

"I have just acquired this recently so I don't have too much to say, but it does contain 3 of their "Best Of" cuts which makes this well worth the purchase."

-John McGovern

"Let me first say that if I did not have to choose my favorites, I would not. I say that because Crush is one of those albums that you can listen to all the way through, (but then which OMD album isn't? :) Crush is one of OMD's most sophisticated albums. The contributions from each ofthe members of the band at that time, are obvius. And although I am partial to Andy McCluskey's vocals and style I enjoy all of the work on the album. I'm sure that Secret isn't just one of MY favorites but one of EVERYONE'S favorites. Let's face it, every track on Crush has it's appeal. However, let me also say that Crush was neither the low light nor the high light of OMD's music, (not that they even had a low light) . And to add to that, I feel that OMD has gotten better with time and that I am very very very very very very very happy with the direction Andy McCluskey chose for OMD. I say that because I know that some people only like the old stuff, I love everything!"

"PS: I really like this idea Pat! Now we get to hear what everyone really thinks."

-Robin Pimentel

"good album, would reccomend it"

-Craig Graham

"I liked it (Like every other OMD cd), altough the songs are kinda, um, out of it, if you know what I mean. But I would definetly buy it. (I don't own it as of now, but I've listened to it.)"

-Cheryl Casey

"Very good album. In my opinion, this album was an attempt to hit the mainstream, with success. This album put them on primetime MTV and touring with the PowerStation in the US. Good beginning six songs; the album slows down after 88 Seconds (you might be able to stretch that to after Native Daughters). If you want to hear OMD for the first time, I would recommend this album if you couldn't get hold of OMD or Junk Culture."

-SGL

"Crush" was my second exposure to OMD (after "Junk Culture"). It is hard to believe that it was released ten years ago. It has held up very well over time."

-Seth J. Dewey

"The thing I like most about "Crush" is tis diversity. I think other people may have ventured a similiar opinion about the album. "Crush" falls into my top 3 category behind "Organisation" and "Architecture and Morality"

-Bob Acrey

"It has a few great songs on it, but it's just not as good as their earlier albums"

-Justin Turner

"Best OMD album ever"

-Michael Christian Wycisk

"This is probably one of the band's best works. It adds new dimension to the band's music by utilizing Malcolm more on the drums and Martin on the saxaphone. The addition of the Weir brothers playing brass also give the songs more energy than in previous albums. This album seemd to be a big turning point in the bands history since it was "Crush" that really found an audience in the United States. Of the tracks, there are the obvious favorites in "Secret" and "So in Love" since they were such big hits in the U.K. and the U.S., but for me it is the rest of the album that really impressed me. I happen to think "Bloc Bloc Bloc" and "Native Daughters of the Golden West" are two of the more interesting tracks given their lyrical content, along with "88 Seconds in Greensboro" which was actually inspired by a shooting at an anti KKK meeting some years ago in Greensboro, NC. Musically speaking, I happen to think "The Lights are Going Out" is a very relaxing melody that mixes with the backing track of Paul Humphries wife Maureen singing the "aaahhh's" to make a nice, peaceful sounding track that is very well produced. But my favorite of all on Crush is "Women III." Why, I don't really know, but there just seems this very easy going, upbeat melody to it that you can't resist (in fact someone once told me it sounds like the "Hokey Pokey" song.) The lyrics I guess could be translated into whatever meaning you like, but this is one track that I start singing every time it comes on at home or in the car!"

-Pat Fetty (the guy who runs the page)

"A very listenable album, not one of my favorite three though. "Women III" is probably my favorite track. It's got a nice mellow feel to it. "Secret" and "So in Love are too MTV-friendly "Native Daughters"/"88 Seconnds" are excellent, but "Bloc Bloc Bloc" and "Hold On" are the best on the album for me. Definitely buy "Crush-the movie" it makes excellent viewing and you can see the video for "Hold On,"

-Andy Martin
